BOG | 25TH ANNIVERSARY | ENTRY | #10 (2018 - 2019 – Eye Of The Storm) Now that we have re-visited all stages of our band-history during the last 10 weeks, we have finally reached the present, and our current album „Eye Of The Storm“. Although we are still convinced of the quality of its predecessor "Unchained", we somehow had the impact that this album hadn’t received the recognition that it deserves. There are multiple reasons for that: the press reactions and reviews were pretty good, but we played a lot less concerts compared to the years before, and we still hadn’t released any videoclip, which is obviously a very important promotion-tool in digital times like today. It may sound like a cliché-phrase, but we have always considered each new album as if it were our last album, when we have started working on it. But more than ever before we had this feeling while working on “Eye Of The Storm”. We were so convinced that we had written the strongest song-material of our career, that we wanted to do everything we could to make this album successful. Never before we spent so much energy and precision to the songwriting and recording process. And after producing 2 albums each with Andy Classen, Tommy Hansen and Dan Swanö we also wanted to tap another mixing-engineer for this new record, and finally ended up with Kristian “Kohle” Kohlmannslehner, who has worked with bands like POWERWOLF, ABORTED and CRIPPER before. This decision was definitely one of the best that we have ever made. We knew him since the late 90s where we have played several shows together. And the mixing-sessions in his studio made "Eye Of The Storm" the heaviest and most professional sounding album in our history. Not only did we pursue our high-level visual aspiration through an extraordinary cover art work, but also through the release of a lyric-video and 3 (!) other clips which turned out to be a coherent video-trilogy. All this made "Eye Of The Storm" by far the most expensive record that we have ever made. But the press reactions to “Eye Of The Storm” were amazing, we received not only very positive reviews but also interviews in all leading German print-magazines (which also hosted the 3 video-presentations), as well as an appearance on the ROCK HARD compilation-CD. The release of “Eye Of The Storm” was followed by many live-shows again. In addition to great indoor and outdoor festivals, we even played our first shows in the metropolis of heavy metal, in England. But these concerts were also the very last of our long-time drummer Robb, who decided to leave the band after 13 years in order to follow other musical paths. We checked out different new drummers but finally ended up with our long-time friend Jan Breede, who also plays in REAPER and HELLFORCE. Together we have played more shows in 2019 than we have played in any other year of the last almost 10 years. And to sum up the whole 25 years of BURDEN OF GRIEF: of course there were and are a lot of other bands in the German underground metal scene that have achieved way more than we have. We have never played a “real” tour, we have never played in Wacken, we have never had a booking- or management-agency. But having survived with a band for a quarter of a century, having played hundreds of shows in 11 countries all over Europe and still being able to play bigger concerts and to release our music in a professional way, is something that makes us very proud and still hungry. Of course, we do not know what the future holds, but we have already a bunch of great concerts for 2020 in the pipeline. So why not move on to the next 25 years ?!? ... See more
